In every divorce action, many issues need to be addressed and can perhaps be settled. The issues encompass the grounds for divorce, custody, visitation, financial issues, child support, maintenance, equitable distribution, counsel fees, medical and life insurance.

No matter how you define your family, these issues are complex and sensitive. Child custody is determined based upon the best interests of the child. Child support and maintenance of a spouse are determined in accordance with legislative enacted formulae. Equitable distribution does not mean “equal” distribution, although in marriages of long duration, “equitable” can result in an equal distribution of the marital property, i.e. assets acquired or attained during the marriage, but excluding assets acquired from an estate or by gift, except a gift from your spouse.
